About Antalya Newspaper

The daily newspaper “Antalya Gazette” started its publishing life on September 8, 1922. Its publisher was Mehmet Emin Efendi. Mehmet Enver Bey was the editor-in-chief. Zeki, Mustafa and Şefik Bey were the newspaper’s editors. Antalya Gazette was printed in its own printing press. It is noted that the daily print run of the newspaper was between 500-750 copies in 1925-1926.

The publishing life of the newspaper was interrupted for a while due to the death of its founder Mehmed Emin (1878-1928) Bey on June 1, 1928. It resumed publishing on October 7, 1930. However, it was interrupted again and started publishing again on August 7, 1939. After this date, it continued its publishing life with some interruptions until 2016.

Next to the newspaper’s title there was a note saying Our newspaper welcomes submissions of articles that are beneficial to the general public, useful for the betterment of the nation, and fitting for our published profession. Any writings that go unpublished shall not be returned to their author. Those wishing to contribute their works should direct all communications regarding editorial matters to the newspaper’s publisher. It also said “Published every day except Saturdays” under the word “Antalya” which is the name of the newspaper.

As one of the two newspapers that have survived from the period when publishing began in Antalya to the present day, the “Antalya Gazette” made important contributions to the development of national culture.
