About Collection

This collection consists of issues of the Turkish cartoon prints published at the time of National War and afterwards including Akbaba, Kelebek, Cem/Djem, Süs, Yeni Kalem, Kalem, Aydede and Karikatür. 389 issues compiled in 12 volumes, are housed in the Suna Kıraç Library, Special Collections & Archives and VEKAM Library & Archive. Kelebek, Cem/Djem, Süs, Yeni Kalem, Kalem, Aydede and Karikatür have been obtained through the donation of Fuat Bayramoğlu, M. Sacit Basmacı and Tuğrul Ansay by the SKL and Akbaba magazine through the acquisition by the VEKAM. Issues spanning the years between 1922 and 1949 in Ottoman and Turkish illustrate the social and political scene of Türkiye as well as the World.

Akbaba with 107 issues (103 issues of 1922-1923, three issues of 1934 and one issue of 1935), Kelebek with 25 issues (1924), Süs with 17 issues (1924), Cem / Djem with 22 issues [Second series] (1927-1928), Yeni Kalem with 19 issues (1927-1928), Kalem with 12 issues (1930), Karikatür with 83 issues (1938-1944), and Aydede with 103 issues (1948-1949), these prints consist of prominent writers and poets, such as Reşat Nuri Güntekin, Peyami Safa, Nazım Hikmet Ran, Ercüment Ekrem Talu, Mahmut Yesari, Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, Cemal Refik, Fikret Ali, Semih Mümtaz, Melih Cevdet Anday, Fazıl Ahmet Aykaç, Ercüment Ekrem Talû and Togo. Among the cartoonists were Rıfkı, Cem, Münif Fehim, Ramiz, Ratip Tahir, Cemal Nadir Güler, Ramiz Gökçe, Necmi Rıza Ayça, and Turhan Selçuk.
