About Collection

This collection includes sound recordings capturing industrial machines and objects housed by the Rahmi M. Koç Museum. The Rahmi M. Koç Museum, which sheds light on the history of the industry and opened to visitors in 1994, is located in the Hasköy district on the northern side of the Golden Horn. The building that houses the museum is the historic Hasköy Shipyard. This shipyard in 1861 by the company-i Hayriye was established for maintenance. The shipyard, which initially consisted of several buildings in a workshop layout, was expanded in time according to the possibilities. First, a 45-meter wooden sled is installed in the shipyard and the pulling force is provided by a working windlass. While this windlass was made to work with electricity in 1910, the city line ferries numbered 75 and 76 chimneys in 1938 Kocataş and Sarıyer are built here. In the following years, Hasköy Shipyard changed hands frequently until 1980s according to the changes in the structure of maritime transportation.

It was abandoned when it was bought by Rahmi M. Koç Museum Foundation in November 1996. Hasköy Shipyard Following the restoration carried out under the direction of Bülent Bulgurlu, museum functions were determined depending on the area and height of the buildings. These buildings, which shed light on a circuit, were abandoned when they were bought by Rahmi M. Koç Museum Foundation in November 1996.

In addition, scientific vehicles, rail transportation vehicles, marine vehicles, aviation vehicles, communication vehicles, land transportation, various machines with steam and diesel engines, fine workmanship It shows the change in the historical process of the tools in the collection, which consists of rare examples of models and toys.

The Sounds of Rahmi M. Koç Museum / Echoes of Industrial Heritage collection was produced as the outcome of Onur Engin. Engin was a PhD student at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Archeology and Art History and to preserve the collection and make it public, the sound recordings and images of the collection items were given to Suna Kıraç Library as an intellectual cultural heritage.
