Note on Scope and Context

The collection consists of prints, black&white and colored photographs, postcards, and photo cards, which offer insight on Ankara’s historical periods since the first ages. The prints of the collection are the first depictions of the city before the 20th-century. The first photographs of the city were taken in the late 19th-century. These photographs are important visual sources documenting the pre-Republican period of the city. The majority of the collection is composed of plans of the institutional structures, monuments, parks and gardens, landscape architecture, street, and roads as well as celebrities, students, teachers, occupation groups, statesman, and bureaucrat’s photographs and postcards.

Digitalizing

The digitalization process was carried out both by outsourcing and in-house. In 2014 as VEKAM became a part of the Koc University, the digitalization processes were delivered to Koc University Suna Kırac Library. Maps, plans, and drawings were digitalized in 300 dpi, TIFF using Zeutschel OS 12000C. Materials larger than A2 were scanned with CANON 5D Mark 3 and Mark 4. After 2018 VEKAM personnel carried out the digitalizing process with Copibook Open System İ2S. Digitalized materials were transferred to CONTENTdm content management system in JPEG format and brought to use.
