Summary

Abstract: Civil Architectural Memory Ankara 1930-1980 Structure Inventory: Research Documentation and Developing Conservation Criteria Project was realized to point out architectural housing structures; making research on these structures, and documenting them as the research team developed conservation criteria. The project is carried out by Prof. Dr. Nuray Bayraktar and supported by TÜBİTAK and Koç University VEKAM. Inventory records are opened to access as a digital collection by Koc University VEKAM.

Administrative/Biographic History

Civil Architectural Cultural Heritage in Ankara between 1930-1980: Research Documentation and Developing Conservation Criteria Project was carried out to draw attention to architectural housing structures; making research on these structures, documenting them, and curating a Virtual City Archive (Museum) as well as pointing out that these structures are a part of cultural heritage hence developing criteria to conserve them. The project’s duration was three years. The project focused on the structures of a period that is important and characteristic in modern period discourses, which were built in Ankara city that is also important and characteristic in modern period discourses. The project is carried out by Prof. Dr. Nuray Bayraktar and supported by TÜBİTAK and Koç University VEKAM. VEKAM obtained the rights to display and use all the contents and materials via a protocol between Koc University and Baskent University in 2017. Alev Ayaokur and Nalan Aslıhan Tarakçı were assigned for inventories. The metadata information of the collection materials was transferred to CONTENTdm Content Management System by Nalan Aslıhan Tarakçı in 2017 February. The collection was opened to access by Koc University VEKAM.

Note on Scope and Context

The inventory is composed of the civil architectural structures’ survey records and related material which fit the criteria determined by the project team that was built between 1930 and 1980 in Ankara’s Çankaya, Altındağ, Mamak, Keçiören, and Yenimahalle districts.

Registrations are organized according to VEKAM Library and Archive Unit’s original order and provenance norms.

The collection is composed of 236 structures.


Processing Notes

Digitalization

The digitalization process was carried out by the project team (Prof. Dr. Nuray Bayraktar and Project Team) and opened to access with the collaboration of Koc Üniversitesi and Baskent University. Koc University VEKAM undertook the definition of the digital sources and opening them to access on a digital platform.
